TrueCrypt 6.0a

TrueCrypt is very good Data Protection/Disk Encryption software. It is not a portable application, but it is quite useful for protect yout private stuff in the portable device/USB memory.

Similar to some other virtualization software, you can create virtual drive(volume) on your USB memory/Harddisk using TrueCrypt with a password. After that, you can mount your volume as local drive and use it like your local device.

The content of the virtual drive is viewable only in TrueCrypt software with the matched password. In other application, like Windows Explorer, you can only view the volume file.

You can also set "Auto-mount device", so that you volume in harddisk/USB disk can be ready for use when the computer is started.

It is very good for using TrueCrypt with USB Memory. Such that you can make sure you will not lose any personal stuff(photo,documents) to other person when you USB Memory is lost.

Other than Windows version, there is also Mac and Linux version.

Dexpot 1.4.1

Dexpot is a tool which allow you to organize windows into different virtual desktop.

For me, I have opened the outlook, Words in Desktop One.

And the web browsers for web surfing (more than 10 windows) will be under in Desktop Two.

And the development environment(IDE, dos prompt, database etc) would be setup in Desktop Three.

You can change to different desktop easily by pressing "Windows" Key+ "Left"Key/"Right" Key.

Another good function "Desktop Rule", is also recommended. You can preset some common application to run on particular/all Desktop. For example, For Windows Live Messenger, I have preset to be run on all Desktop.

There is also a portable version (Dexpot portable), so that you can carry it in USB stick.

New iPod nano (4th Generation) and iPod touch (2nd Generation?)

Yesterday, Steve Jobs announced the iPod nano (4th Generation)& iPod touch (2nd Generation?).

For iPod touch, a good price cut is made over the previous iPod touch. New volume button is added for ease usage. Unfortunately, the headphone jack is still located in the bottom side, rather than the top side like iPhone 3G. Also, the iPhone 2.1 Software Update is still sold separately by $9.99 via iTune Store, rather than preloaded in the iPod touch.

For iPod nano, the "new" design, larger (2", 320x240) screen and built-in accelerometer, could be interesting. Additional control in iPod Touch (like Cover Flow in Album selection, change photo/video in landscape/portriate mode etc) can now be used in iPod nano. Also, it is announced that there would be games for iPod nano available at iTune Store.

Both iPod nano and iPod touch offers 8GB, 16GB version. 32 GB version is also available for iPod Touch.

If you don't have iPhone/iPhone 3G/iPod touch, I would recommend you to spend $100 more on iPod touch over iPod nano for larger screen (3.5", 320x480), wifi connectivity and potential wider application range.

VirtualBox 2.0

VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for hardware.

As the computation power is getting higher, it is always good that you can make use of your computer to run another guest OS of the same kind or different. So that, you can test some new software on the separate OS without impact to the working computer. Also, you can use it for studying the new OS, e.g. RedHat, Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu etc. VirtualBox is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software.

Latest version of VirtualBox 2.0 is just released. 64 bits OS is also supported in this version.
